During the last week of this month, July 24 – 29, the First International Choir Festival, entitled “Music Inspiration Landscape 2007”, will take place in Riga and Sece.
The main activities of the festival, including an International Choir Competition, joint singing, master classes and concerts, will take place in capital Riga. On the Latvia Regional Day, singing will take place in regional cities of Vidzeme. The final concert, featuring joint European choirs and soloists, symphonic orchestra and ethnic singers, who will demonstrate Bourdon singing, will be staged at Degla Hill in Aizkraukle District's Sece, which is a picturesque site on the bank of the River Daugava. This old riverbed of Daugava is located not far from the native place of composer Peteris Barisons and the notorious cliff Staburags, which sank under the water when a dam for a Plavinas' hydroelectric station was built in late 1960's.
In this festival, which is also an international competition, the choirs will have to perform compulsory pieces that include popular songs by composers from Finland, Greece, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Norway and Latvia. The winning choirs will perform in concerts in Passau (Germany) and Linz (Austria) in September.
